A DIFFERENT KIND OF COMPANY

REAL PROFIT - THE LONG VIEW

Profit, measured in dollars, has been a foregone conclusion even before Pur Element was organized. Once the basic formulas of this unique product had been laid down, it didn't take a genius to see that the demand - hence the profits - would be rapidly forthcoming. And, as we all know, the profit margins for all cosmetics companies is nothing to "blush" at.

Nevertheless, the frightening (at that early date) fact remained that establishing a major cosmetics company - in spite of the exciting profit prospects - was to be a HUGE undertaking. It would be, for all intents and purposes, my very life for years to come and a never-ending ton of very hard work thru many long hours.

In light of this, I decided, that I would have to have something much more substantial than mere dollars to make this massive undertaking worthwhile. I decided I must commit myself and the very structural foundations of this proposed company on something far more substantial than mere dollars - something that would motivate, that would steer me through rough waters, guide my decisions when choices are less than clear and most importantly bring me pleasure and allow me genuine pride in my achievements.

So, I thought a little more about all that would be involved in this venture in hopes of finding a "guiding light." That is when I realized that the biggest part of my contemplated venture had little to do with "product" and even less to do with profits. The key ingredient to any hoped-for success, to any anticipated pleasure or pride - even to failure - would lie in my relationships with the many people (most unknown to me at this point) who would be involved - who would become an integral part of my life - who would be Pur Element. I knew then, immediately, what must be the key, the bedrock on which my actions, my goals, my commitments, the company itself would have to be based.

The answer was obvious - The Golden Rule.

This ancient, simple and awesomely powerful principle (with its unspoken reward) combined with determination would see me through. There could be no doubt. Treat others right. Show genuine respect and compassion, be honest and hardworking - this smells like success.

This long story is to express how I promise to conduct myself in dealing with you as a person and partner.
